Population

Did you know Abbotsford's population has doubled since 1981?

("Census metropolitan area of Abbotsford - Mission, British Columbia", 2012)

In general, Abbotsford's population is consistent throughout and is stationary. There are less people in the higher age cohorts, which is because the possibility of death gets higher as you age. The amount of male and females remain equal with each other as well. This shows that Abbotsford is located in a high income country.

I believe that Abbotsford's population will continue to grow as it is now, but at a slow pace. In the 45-49 age cohort, we see the baby boomers who will soon retire. This will mean more job opportunities for the younger dependency load when they are looking for jobs. However, when this happens, there will be less people working for a larger dependency load (the baby boomers who have retired). If there is a natural disaster, like an earthquake or flood, I believe this could change how the graph above looks. However, I think that Abbotsford's population will continue to thrive and slowly grow into a more developed and industrial city.
